Q: Are you accepting new patients?
A: Yes, we welcome new patients! Please call us at 907.696.2875 to schedule a new patient exam.
Q: Do you treat children?
A: Yes, Eagle River Smiles is a family dental office. Depending on the child and the procedure, you may be referred to a specialist for some treatments.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that a child go to the dentist by age one or within six months after the first tooth erupts. The sooner your child becomes familiar with our office and staff, the less anxiety there will be at future appointments. Please feel free to call and discuss options and timing for your child’s first appointment.
Q: Do you offer cosmetic dentistry?
A: We are dedicated to enhancing the natural beauty of your smile. We offer a range of services including teeth whitening, porcelain veneers and cosmetic bonding.
Q: Do you perform root canals and tooth extractions?
A: Yes, Dr. Enghirst can perform basic root canals and extractions. Depending on your specific needs, you may be referred to a specialist for some procedures.
Q: Do you do silver amalgam fillings?
A: No, while we don’t believe there is anything inherently dangerous about silver fillings, we fill cavities using a white resin composite material. Dr. Enghirst is happy to discuss this choice with you further at your appointment.
Q: What do I do if I have a dental emergency?
A: During our regular office hours, we do our best to accommodate the dental emergencies of our current patients. We know that emergencies don’t always happen during business hours, though, so we also provide our regular patients with on-call service whenever possible.

Q: What should I expect at my first appointment?
A: We hope that your first appointment will be the start of a long-term relationship with our dental office. For this reason, we will focus on understanding your condition and will answer any questions you have about your oral health. Teens and adults can expect the initial appointment to take approximately 90 minutes.
Your appointment will begin with some questions about your medical and dental history. If you would like to expedite the process, feel free to complete your paperwork in advance. It is also helpful if you bring with you (or have transferred to our office in advance) any notes or images from previous providers. Then we’ll gather data about your oral health by taking x-rays and photos and documenting past treatments. Typically, your first appointment will include a cleaning by one of our dental hygienists and a dental exam by Dr. Enghirst. There will be time for you to ask any questions you have; we’ll also discuss any concerns we find.
For some patients, your first appointment may simply consist of addressing an immediate concern that you have. In these cases, our main focus will be to resolve the issue at hand and to make you comfortable. Subsequent visits will focus on your long-term goals.
Q: What am I responsible for paying on the day of my appointment?
A: Payment for treatment is due at the time of appointment. Payment options include cash, check, Visa or MasterCard. (Financial Agreement Form)
Q: Do you accept dental insurance?
A: If you have dental insurance, we are happy to offer assistance submitting claims. To maximize your benefits, we encourage you to understand your policy and to contact your insurance company with any questions prior to your dental appointment. At the time of treatment, you are required to cover any applicable deductible and/or percent of fees not covered by your insurance company. While we always do our best to help resolve any issues that arise, in the case of delays or discrepancies with insurance payments, you are ultimately responsible for reconciling your account.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours notice. If appropriate advance notice is not provided, a $75 fee may be assessed.
Q: The roads are icy, are you open?
A: We will call you to cancel if our staff is unable to make it to the office. Otherwise, we’ll see you at your appointment as scheduled.
